PEI Soccer finalizing Operational Plans for Return to Play on June 8

2020-05-27

May 27, 2020 - PEI Soccer, in consultation with its Member Clubs and in partnership with Canada Soccer, are in the final stages of finishing the Operational Plan for the Return To Play.

May 27, 2020

PEI Soccer's Return to Play plan is based on the Phase 3 – Renew PEI Together  plan and the recently released Organized Recreational Activities and Team Sports Guidance.

PEI Soccer is moving through the final two steps of the return to play process before sanctioned soccer can resume.  At the same time, each member club is working diligently to organize and prepare for all the necessary logistics that must be in place for the return of soccer in their respective club.

The following is the proposed timeline with the understanding that things may change:
May 27 - June 7: Club Organization and Communication with Membership
  • online player registration continues
  • PEI Soccer Operational Plan release on May 29th.

June 8 – TBD (est. 3 weeks): Return to the Pitch(max. 20/group)
  • clubs are allowed to resume sanctioned soccer activities (practice and training sessions)
  • practice and training sessions will adhere to physical distancing(2m) at the start of this phase with the introduction of scrimmages (eg. 5 vs 5) under modified game rules in the later stage of the phase
Date TBD: Introduction of Games
  • games played as per the mass gathering allowance number in Renew PEI Together plan
  • as per Provincial Team Sport Guidance, physical distancing among participants and players is to be maintained as much as possible, except for brief exchanges where they cannot be avoided
  • modified game rules introduced to reduce physical contact
As part of the Renew PEI Together process, PEI Soccer and the member clubs are looking forward to offering a program for our membership to enjoy. When introduced, the PEI Soccer Operational Plan will have gone through a rigorous process to ensure compliance with guidelines and the training and playing environment is as safe as possible. The Plan will provide comprehensive details for the different phases to the return of play as well as logistics around training and arrival and departure procedures.

We are all looking forward to sounds of players kicking a ball, the chatter and laughter while enjoying playing the game of soccer. We ask for your patience and, when possible, your assistance in helping us deliver our program under the new guidelines.

Stay safe and see you on the pitch soon.
