Soccer Update: Eastern Eagles

First of all, thank you for your patience. It has been difficult planning for the upcoming soccer season. With PEI now in Phase 3 of its Renew PEI Together approach, we are now ready to get players back on the field. We will start next week, June 8th, for our youth players only (U11 to U18). Please read below for important information.

Youth Soccer (U11-U18): Start date – the week of June 8th
Mini soccer (U5-U9): Start date – the week of June 22nd

More information about our Mini and Senior Soccer Programs will be available in the next few days and a separate communication will be sent out.

For the Youth Program, implementation will be in Two Phases;
Phase 1
● Starting the week of June 8th our U11 to U18 players will start getting on the fields.
 Fields will be numbered and your child will be dropped off and head to their designated field upon arrival. Assigned fields will be posted on Facebook the night before practice. Players should be ready and prepared to go upon arrival (ie: cleats and shin pads put on in advance).
● We will invite players out by age / gender in smaller groups of less than 20 to work with coaches and technical staff.
● We will ease players back into soccer for the first few sessions and will be familiarizing players with the routines and guidelines as well as the modified game rules.
● During this time, most of the drills and exercises will follow social distancing with the possible introduction of 5v5 scrimmages using the modified game rules.
● We will begin assessing/evaluating players so that we can place the teams in their appropriate tier.

Phase 1 will run until the end of June.

Phase 2

● If permitted by the Chief Public Health Office, games against teams from other clubs, using modified rules, may start in late June or early July and run until the end of August. The PEI Soccer Association plans to run a league to allow for games when it is deemed appropriate.

Note: If the PEISA does not obtain approval for games to be played, Eastern Eagles will run two further training camps similar to those in Phase 1, during the months of July and August.

Information about fees, payment due dates, and schedules for training sessions will be sent out via separate communications.

We will require the full cooperation of parents / guardians to deliver this program safely. We have developed a Parent / Participant Guide which all parents should read. The link is here;

Below is some more information:

What a typical session may look like:
1. Arrival at the field includes sanitizing hands, placing any belongings in a designated area, and talking with the coach.
2. Dynamic warm-up following social distancing.
3. Skill work/drills which limit contact as much as possible.
4. 5v5 scrimmage following the modified game rules (this may have to start at a later date).
5. Talk with coach and dismissal.
6. Sessions will be 60-minutes; parents will drop players at their designated field and pick their child up after (see Parent/Participant Guide for more information).

Modified Game Rules:
In order to play a game of soccer, some rules have been modified. Many of these rules are similar to the futsal game played in different parts of the world.
Some of these rules are:
● Maintain 2 meters distance (or more) from any player unless you make an attempt to dispossess the opponent from the ball.
● No touching the ball with hands except for the goalkeeper.
● The goalkeeper must wear gloves.
● No slide tackles.
● No physical contact with players off the ball.
● No headers.
● All restarts (including throw-ins) must be played on the ground or below knee height; defenders must give 10 yards on restarts.
● All restarts are indirect, to avoid players having to form a wall for direct free-kicks
These rules have been created with the understanding that it is near-impossible to eliminate contact with another person in the game. They are designed to minimize risk as much as possible.

Thank you again for your patience. More information will be available in the coming days.
