Changes to U12 Leagues

April 26, 2013

This year, the PEI Soccer Association is splitting U12 teams up into 3 tiers.

There will be the Premier tier which is the same as in past years.

There will be a First Division which is for players who do not yet have all the skills and abilities,  or may not be able to make the higher level of commitment required to play at the premier level, but want to play competitive games.

There will be a Second Division which is for players who want to play primarily for the recreational, social and fun aspects of the game.

It is expected that these changes will result in a higher level of competition for First Division teams as there won't be as wide a variation in the strength of these teams, as was the case in the past.

Eastern Eagles (as well as all clubs) will now have a more complicated decision regarding the placement of teams within this new tiering structure. If we have a Premier team at U12 Boys or Girls, we will have to determine whether the second team would best fit in the First or Second Division. We will have some information about the kids who try out and fail to make the premier team, but we will have very little information about the kids who don't attend the tryouts.

For this reason, I strongly encourage all U12 players to come out to the tryouts even if you don't want to be on the premier team. This will help us decide which division is the most apprpriate for the second team without holding a second level of tryouts / evaluations later next week.
